Don’t forget 2016 and don’t forget your new year resolutions

Don’t forget 2016 and don’t forget your new year resolutions

Okay! Last month was the beginning of the New Year, 2017. What’s next in 2017 for you?

In the jolly festive season leading up to the climax of New Year, family and loved ones would send well wishes to you mostly requiring of you to forget 2016 and live a happy New Year.  I’m not a pessimist, I just believe in reality. Perhaps this may be my own special version of a New Year message.

I cannot tell exactly what you are thinking. You may agree with me or disagree. Nevertheless… I’ll take the risk. If you often find yourself daydreaming several times in a day, lost in thought, of all the good things, emotions and opportunities life has to offer, listen…they aren’t going to happen, not in 2017 if you continue doing the same things you did in 2016. Things which were a compound of inexcusable shortcomings, unnecessary procrastination, blame games, unhealthy comparisons, inferiority complex, a wretched internal disposition and a shredded outlook. I know you may say you never did any such things but you did, perhaps not consciously or intentionally but you did. The fact is we are ruled by our minds, most especially by what we’ve woven into our subconscious reasoning. In critical Times, our immediate actions are as a result of our minds and what we put into the subconscious. So the mind might be the rightful place for you to start your 2017. Change it until it changes you ultimately…And the one who rules His mind rules His life. Take it or leave it, that will never change.

It’s all in your mind, changing it means changing your life.

When I started, I spoke of those messages. Don’t forget about 2016, please don’t. Let it be a guide and some sort of blueprint for 2017, now that 2017 is left with just 11 months to go. They say we learn from our failures and I encourage you to remember your failures, your painful moments and whatever you felt weren’t right to happen to you. And after that I want you to tell your true self that those things aren’t going to happen to you in your coming life and future. Be determined to make this a reality. Pain is sweet when well used. Pain, if well utilized great benefits will be reaped. Use that pain to carve a beautiful ending to the story they said will not see any good (nobody may have said to your hearing but it’s worth considering, some people’s job is to hate and try to pump negativity into others against you). Once you don’t learn the bitter truths of life you’ll just continue to act as you did in 2016. Success is bitter; it’s just filled with loneliness. Until you learn to live a lonely life you’ll never think of leaving your current state.

Once you decide to do something new to your life, sometimes you don’t even know where you are going, then your other half, the false self fears of being shunned since you’re beginning to take control of your true self, your desirable self and your future. Back to making 2017 a wholly happy and successful one, I’m not going to tell you to follow some millionaire or success plan or whatsoever they call them. No! I’m telling you to be disciplined. Then, you will have found your dream because without discipline, getting a clear cut dream and what you want to do with your will be more fantasy and reality. You’ll be a DC, chasing money and whole lot of stuff but you won’t know that it’s the wrong way to getting money you have chosen. Discipline will teach you to determine what your dream is clearly, tell you what you must do, how to do it and when to do it even if you hate it to the core of your heart. So get your discipline right then you can chase your goals with the desire needed to go through, the persistence to pass through and the mind-set of a winner.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment                                                      -Jim Rohn

However, In addition to what I have mentioned already, you will need to cultivate a habit of reading. Reading will open your mind to a whole new world of possibilities. You get to discover new ways of doing things, how to get over problems, how to develop yourself, give you insights into how others are doing what you are doing, etc.

The best advice I ever got was that knowledge is power and to keep reading.

Peace, that’s what we should vote for.

Over the years Ghana has come to be known as one of the most peaceful countries in the continent and the globe. Ghanaians I must say love the peace which also attracts people especially refugees and tourists. The peaceful nature of our dear Ghana cannot be overemphasized. However, in recent times, the need for more measures to keep the peace we all love has become an issue worth going to the drawing board for. Especially in election periods when heated political discourses are more likely to dissolve to conflicts.

We have met another election period and these tendencies have reared their ugly faces out again. What we as Ghanaians need to do is to cut off their heads off though if it’s to work all hands will be needed on deck. We have become used to government agencies doing all the work as well as some social institutions such as religious bodies and traditional authorities.  However, we have to note that no one should be exempted from this course of action. Everyone is to keep the watch for this night and the rest of the nights to come. No situation should be taken for granted. We should take note of circumstances which could lead to tension and avoid them. Reports should be made pertaining to issues of security breaches and suspicion. All this should be done with the mindset that it’s to keep you alive. Most war situations do not affect the elite and “Big men”, but rather the ordinary citizenry, People who have nowhere to go in times of turmoil, no protection even in normal times. Ghanaians must wake from their slumber that government is the mandated institution for keeping the peace therefore it should be theirs only. We must keep this fact at the back of our minds that its innocents who suffer most from war and conflict and no one else.

Even come to think of it, the benefits go to non-other than the politicians. Therefore why should you risk it all to get votes for someone to benefit. If you think a political party is good enough and should win that’s okay. But people often go to extremes to get this done mostly using violent and unconstitutional means. The youth, the future leaders are those often used to champion such acts. This should give us reason to worry how or what Ghana would be if those who will have the chance to make and unmake laws can do this. Rather, I encourage and challenge all youth out there to be different. They should be the voice, the cry of the future. They should restrain from allowing themselves to be used as weapons of others, of politicians. My point of view is that if the political party you are ready to act violently to get into power think and believe they are the best and deserve to be in power then they have nothing to fear.  And if they have the country at heart and want to secure a clean future, then violence in politics is not a good start. People who engage in violent acts hardly pay their dues. Politicians who come to make promises to the youth if they rally behind them will not remember those promises. It’s simple. That is because such people will always find new ways to get what they want and will eventually forget what they promised you. They might even have you on their elimination list because you know too much about their plots. Let’s get this straight.

Tensions have proven to be the enemy of the general populace. Consider the cost in maintaining peace. Money which would have been used for another course goes into peace keeping. Education and other important activities in the country come to a standstill. People are frightened to death. They lose the properties they spent decades acquiring. Lives are lost. Think about it.

As we go to polls come December 7, it is my deepest hope and prayer that we make the perfect choice Ghana needs. I encourage all to vote based on performance and the ability to make Ghana what we all hope for.

We have come far as a peaceful country; we should not give up now!

The art of criticism and the destruction it’s capable of. The sin we all sin!

The art of criticism and the destruction it’s capable of. The sin we all sin!

Why is it mostly the case that people are quick at criticizing? Correction? I doubt that! If you have ever criticized someone which I know you may have even done more than once, how did it turn out? Were the results desirable? I guess not. I am just trying to get you thinking, to get you to question why you engage in a whole lot of criticizing, sometimes without even thinking. It’s a fact we all do criticize. But before your next criticism, do read this it may make you think twice.

Criticisms are expressions of what is good or bad in either written or spoken, criticisms are mostly done in an attempt to correct. However, some individuals just do so because it makes them feel good. Unfortunately, this is a mere exhibition of emotional sadism. For whatever reason you criticize, just think twice before doing so. I will tell you why you should. Criticisms aren’t actually that bad if done rightly. Most criticisms are done in a state of anger which makes the language of expression extremely harsh and impolite. But if you are criticizing, should your criticism be the cause of somebody’s emotional discomfort, inferiority complex and low self-esteem? I believe you may have come across the phrase “constructive criticism” more than once. Well, I think it’s become nothing but just another cliché added to that rumbling list of the importance things we belittle. If the criticism is not well presented, it will be destructive instead of correcting. One thing is sure, most people who are criticized try to justify their acts and defend themselves because they were criticized and blamed, then we criticize this one by calling it pride. This is our human nature. We are defensive and will not accept our faults when we are approached wrongly.

It is not the words that we utter or the things we do when we criticize people that bring about a lot of unfavorable situations. It is often the effect your words and actions leave behind. That is why it is often said that the tongue has no bones but it is strong enough to break a heart. One of the greatest poets of all time, Maya Angelou is best known for this quotation, ‘people will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.’ Taking wisdom from this, let us know that even in criticism, having an attitude of appreciation and taking tactical strategies to criticize rightly is wholly essential.

Criticizing may seem all natural and a good way to get someone back on his/her feet, but it in fact isn’t. It does the opposite instead. Criticisms possess the power to instantly kill. Yes, kill. Criticisms can kill initiatives as well as cause people to commit suicide. Some criticisms make one so downtrodden that one feels so useless and worthless, without a good self-esteem suicide seems a reasonable option to consider. Initiatives, good ones can also be destroyed by criticisms from people. Criticizing people’s initiatives doesn’t provide them the needed courage to proceed, eventually killing ideas. Besides, criticizing somebody doesn’t make you any better! Sorry! In human relations, being a critique isn’t a good practice at all. The fact that people are defensive and will do all in their power to protect their image should be enough to tell you that being a critique is no good idea. Criticizing develops hatred between people because friends become like enemies, one blaming and another defending.

“Don’t criticize them; they are just what we would be under similar circumstances”
-Abraham Lincoln

The whole idea of this article is not to condemn criticisms but to help you become aware of what your criticisms are capable of resulting into. Keep In mind what criticisms can do, it’ll help you to when and how to criticize. For correction, criticism should be done in a gentle manner which will generate awareness in the criticized what he/she did wrong and how the matter can be resolved or should be done next time. I think this approach to criticizing others will create an environment of peace and continuous learning. Instead of condemning people, let’s try to understand them. Let’s try to figure out why they do what they do. That’s a lot more profitable and intriguing than criticism; and it breeds sympathy, tolerance and kindness. “To know all is to forgive all.” Criticisms are not bad and are supposed to help develop one another but if done wrongly the reverse is true. So next time you want to criticize, don’t forget to think twice and do so constructively.

“God himself, sir, does not propose to judge man until the end of his days.”

Why Most of your problems are in your mind

Why Most of your problems are in your mind

peace sin myvoiceI once sat and watched a man who after seemingly waiting for someone finally decided to leave. He just got “disappointed” by a client. He raged out, “Disappointed”. Take a moment and imagine yourself in such a situation. The question I want to ask you is, do you think he was disappointed or not? You know such happenings occur daily in our lives.

Come to think of it, what is a disappointment? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary the verb Disappoint is “to make (someone) unhappy by not being as good as expected or by not doing something that was hoped for or expected”. I guess this is true; you have been made to understand so. Aiming to be happy and free your mind of various worries associated with such events, you need to consider a change of mind. The event is not the problem; the problem is what your mind tells you the problem is. And the mind has many ways of doing this. There are so many ways our societies have implanted into our minds things which seem to be the truth of the matter but are really the opposite.

Getting yourself to think of someone telling you that perhaps they cannot make it to an event is just an event and should be considered as such, nothing more nothing less! From the definition of disappoint above, the main idea is not meeting someone’s expectations where by they become unhappy after. A quick question would be, after his expectations weren’t met what did he think to himself? Perhaps “This client takes me for granted” or “He doesn’t have time for me, he sees me as trash”. Now tell me who disappointed who? Is it your mind just playing with you or this unfortunate event really deserves the attention you have given it. The addition your mind makes to the situation will determine your reaction which will either make it a disappointment or not.rage-1015611_1280.jpg

The boil down fact is that these events happen day in day out but our minds dictate to us how we react to these which either makes them disappointments or not. We have been programmed by society to react negatively to such events. This is a much unfortunate occurrence which has detrimental consequences; inferiority complex, pessimism, depression among others. Just consider the case of our friend who I watched get “disappointed” what if he conceived the thought that his client had an emergency and couldn’t come to see him, something far more important instead or a better reason for his absence. Would that have changed the event? The mind dictates so many things to us from the thoughts and actions of others. The earlier we become conscious of this the better. Controlling our thoughts would be the only way out of a world full of conformists. The thought we accept will eventually become our actions. Watch your thoughts, they become your words. Watch your words, they become your actions.

Another anecdote here will do us good. I went shopping with my aunt while I was still in senior high. En route to a particular shop to purchase a pair of sneakers, something unfortunate which for no good reason I can’t really remember happened. What came out of my mouth immediately was “Wow”. Wow? With a chill of surprise she asked me. But to me It wasn’t a bother that much. I had brushed it off before it could get into my mind as one big problem

Everyone has demons!

Everyone has demons!
peace sin myvoice
We strive for peace, but it dwells in us not others

In this modern era and ages before us, heroes turn to antagonists as much as friend to enemy. We constantly strive for an elusive peace only to have them shattered by ourselves. We declare war on each other but at what price? Is it to prove our strength or just another means to hide that darkness that lurks within?

Wade Wilson aka Deadpool once said “Life is an endless series of train wrecks with only brief commercial-like breaks of happiness.” With careful observation I support this claim. Great men like Adolf Hitler never planned to start a world war… Or did they?

God in his infinite wisdom created Adam and Eve and placed the serpent to deceive them not as a test, but a way of embracing the shadows within them, so they could appreciate the light better. A man only claims to true divinity; if he accepts his demons, embraces his true nature and expels the light locked within.
Half of the time we live, we hide secrets with someone. It is human nature to do so and also human nature to feel threatened by that person. Often not we hide our true feelings and put labels on certain people to feel better. Bullying is a result of insecurity in our daily lives. We do hunt the weak just like lions to weaker animals to feel superior.

We live in a world filled with a lot of colors and our morality isn’t strictly in black and white. Those who see life as such only tend to make the same mistakes they are usually against and try to cover it. Saints are not what they are because they didn’t sin but rather because they didn’t let their weakness (sins) stop them from serving their purpose hence doing ordinary things in an extraordinary manner so would some put it.

Daemon, also demon in Latin means evil spirit and we human seem to enjoy blaming the devil for our misdemeanor. Not to sound blasphemous but how many would disagree they never enjoyed slipping into the dark and succumbing to their sinful nature. Let’s take bullying for instance.

death-peace sin myvoice
We must continually strive to conquer the darkness in us

Forcing a classmate to give you his/ her lunch pack through threats that he/she will be hurt pretty badly if he/she or plucking at someone’s hair may make you feel like the greatest villain ever lived at first. We only feel regret when the evil or shameful deed is revealed to others. Is it the devils fault we do so? Sin is a daily part of our lives just as demons are and we must learn to control the demon within. The tempter is serving his purpose. We must also challenge ourselves to resist him. We must endeavor to identify such moments and restrain from bringing our darkness to light.

bully sin myvoice
You may feel satisfied after bullying but you still not

Great people are great not because they failed. Saints are who they are not because the never fell short of God’s glory and angels are not here to guide us not because they are perfect. Everybody has demons. Don’t let yours ruin your wonderful nature.

You are strongest at your weakest, all you have to do is believe. One wrong can always be made right.

Don’t just be a dreamer, be a practical dreamer!

dream practical
Don’t just dream, dream practical

When many of us hear ‘dreams’, we are quick to conclude this to be some sort of blurry sequence of pictures consisting of both real and fictional characters, places and/or things. This occurs during our sleep. However, this is just one of those instances where the context matters. Dream is a word with another meaning. A dream in simple terms is also things hoped for; often from our imaginations. Day in day out, we nurture hopes brighter prospects in life, which could be termed dreaming. Every one dreams, but it’s just a few who are able to transmute their ideas and hopes for the future into reality. It isn’t every dreamer who succeeds. As there are failures and successes in life so are there dreamers who never get their ideas out of their thick skulls and brains. No doubt many dreams end up just the way they began. It’s not because their ideas are not feasible or realistic enough but because not all dreamers are practical dreamers. Practical dreaming goes far more beyond just dreaming. It will indeed be vague if no effort is made to define the criterion for practical dreaming. Just like many of us Economics students were taught back in school that demand must be backed by purchasing power, practical dreaming must be backed by will power. Even in the circles of religion, many religions have thrived and survived persecution because people dared to dream within the parameters of achievable means. For example, Christianity is very successful a religion because its founder, Jesus Christ is one of the greatest practical dreamers of all time. Faith, it’s referred to in Christianity. He practically saw all that he hoped for and imagined come through. He saw a transmutation happen before it materialized. This should be what we all have to basically have before we can make any headway with our ideas and things hoped for in our future.

All along, this hasn’t been a secret and people have continuously used the power of practical dreaming to achieve great works on the face of the earth. All great achievers are practical dreamers. One must realize that all who have accumulated great fortunes first did a certain amount of dreaming, hoping, wishing, desiring and planning. The crowning stage of all this is whether your dream is practical to you or not. You see, your thoughts literally design your future, your life. Our thoughts dictate to us what we do, say and achieve. The mechanism is very simple but often eludes most people. Maybe it’s because we have been programmed by our school system and society in general to think in a certain pattern which does not really aim at getting us to make our dreams practical. The best people to kill your dream are friends and family who continuously criticize and try to make you understand that your ideas are never realizable and you should settle for a smaller life.

practical dreamer
Don’t just dream, dream practical

If you have read the biography of some great leaders of all time you may have made a realization that they all had and have something in common. All leaders have been practical dreamers since civilization. Which means this isn’t new at all. It’s been in existence since the civilization of man. The fact is they owe their successes to the power of practical dreaming. In the end practical dreamers conquer the world because they have a dream or develop an idea and set out rightly to work to achieve what they have envisioned in their minds eye.

Whenever you develop an idea, your mind from then towards the thing hoped for has a lot to do with the final outcome of the idea. As I said before, countless number of ideas have died in the minds of their bearers. This is a common thing and those who are brave enough to share it with a few friends are thrown into limbo when such friends, no matter how loyal they may be, offer no serious thoughts or deeper insights, then such people begin to doubt their ingenuity. It all starts with your mindset of what you can do and what you cannot do. What you neither see nor realize is achievable, you will never be able to achieve. Just like you see a fruit on a tree and set out to pluck it by all means. That’s for the practical dreamer. He knows that he has a goal and it can be achieved even if not in his lifetime and sets to work immediately. He thinks of those who do think his idea is not going to work that “When I am done you will see”. However, on the side of the dreamer who isn’t practical, he gets the idea and with time it either dies in his mind or gets discouraged and confused by friends. Thus, from the analogy from above, he does not really believe in what he sees giving in room for doubt, His friends and his mind which mocks his zeal to pluck the mango they cannot see discourages him and with time he forgets about the mango.

One thing also unique to practical dreamers is that they believe and are receptive to absolutely almost all ideas new to them. You may think some things are just out of the achievable squad but this isn’t the case. The practical dreamer is no alien to new ideas and they are readily receptive to new ideas no matter how weird they may sound or seem. Yes, most of the technologies we have now were considered unachievable some 20 years ago but now what have we? New inventions which are extremely unbelievable but are a reality are proving that their inventors saw something beyond the criticisms, the current science principles, the discouragements and failures. Thomas Edison, a revolutionary inventor who invented the electric bulb envisioned a lamp powered by electricity to give light and started to work at it. Even though He failed more than ten thousand times, he still saw that electricity powered lamp and it did work.

Practical dreaming needs beholders of ideas to be imaginative enough to see their dream achieved. They are required to keep by it because they believe that this idea would work out for them no matter who says it wouldn’t. Practical dreaming is not an easy thing to do and often requires doing the odds which most people are not familiar with. This creates the antagonism to the idea but the practical dreamer sees none of that but his dream. All successful people men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be. Remembering that believe is far stronger than reason, the practical dreamer is set to take the world. Good luck! DREAM PRACTICAL.

Not only plan, but also believe.

Getting your focus right

We often allocate our energies to so many things that we become exhausted before we know it and without achieving our goal which we set out to do in the first place. The first footstep to boosting the abilities of the human brain is to learn to focus. This means using all of your intellectual capacity to solve a problem. This involves a pulsating desire as well. It sounds difficult, but there is an easy way to focus: by setting goals. Before setting your goals, you need to get your focus right. Get your focus right and then set for success.

Focus on what next

Most people do this but it’s actually a draw back on their focus. Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. If you are looking back at your mistakes, then it should be because you are trying to find the fault to get it corrected or learn from the mistake. Dueling on your past mistakes will just help you secure a worse future. Concentrate on the kind of future you desire and put your focus on it, plan, and work on it. Focusing on your present and future will help you to figure out what is best for you; it will give you something to look up to. Celebrating your past glory is just fine and people even get celebrated for it but standards change and competition becomes tougher. Seeking to work against current standards is a much better idea than dueling on past glory; it may become a drain on your focus.

Focus on “what can I do?” or “How can I help?”

This seems like a norm. When something happens, it’s the leaders we wait for to solve the problem. But it shouldn’t always be the case. When we focus on what we can do instead of what we can’t, a world of possibilities open unto us. As Tony Blair said, Leaders lead but it’s the people who deliver. We should concentrate our focus on what we can do to help solve the problems we encounter daily. After all we are the ones who know best what we want therefore we will be the best people to initiate it, being the change we want to see in the world.

Focus on Faith

When we focus on faith rather than fear, anything becomes possible. When you focus on faith rather than fear, you tap into strength to carry you over even the tallest of mountains. Fear is an illusion created in the mind. Therefore focusing on fear would be a useless venture. Rather our focus on the future and what it may bring gives you faith because you know it’s full of opportunities. Focus on the future gives you something to look up to, something you have to do, a purpose. Something you trust will come true. Focus on the possibilities.

Focus on possibilities

Complains, blames and fault finding yourself adds nothing to your life. Beating yourself up doesn’t benefit anyone either. Focus on what you choose to create instead. If you want a better future, work on it. Create no room for complains and no excuses. Excuses take you away from your focus. Life works best when we focus on where we’re going rather than where we’ve been. The past will only pull you back but your focus on the future will draw you to the possibilities.

Focus on your Desire, keep it!

Getting your focus on some specific goal is difficult and is often a problem to deal with. Just like making a New Year resolution and by the time February is done for you can’t even remember that you made a resolution to do something. Nothing can dissipate adversity faster than changing your focus. Well, it’s very possible to focus on something. You have to first desire it that you can give almost everything for it. Where there is focus, there’s energy flow towards it. As simple as that, get your desire, focus on it and the rest is by pulse your energy will be transferred to achieving it.

 Acknowledge what you have.

You are what you think and you are what you focus on. Life is richer when we celebrate our successes rather than focusing on our failures. Knowing that what we focus on grows, count your blessings instead of your problems will do you good. You may actually have a lot but your lack of appreciation of what you have makes you to lose the essence of what you have. You end up acquiring things you don’t even have time to appreciate. Celebrate what you have. Failures are best utilized in learning lessons, anything but for that is destructive and you’ll get destroyed if you make your failure your focus, frustration will catch up with you. Focus on what you DO have instead of what you don’t.

Focus on the future

The trouble with many plans is that they are based on the way things are now. To be successful, your personal plan must focus on what you want, not what you have. Focusing on where you want to go, not where your currently are.
The skill of focus is not an effortless venture. It would require a lot of self-discipline. Setting goals will help you get your focus right but your desire to see goals come to pass must be strong cos it will be your call to action. The road to success will way simpler if you have your focus on point, time and energy stealers would lose hold of you and set you on the path of your destiny which you decide. Remember that

Success isn’t magic or hocus-pocus

– its simply learning how to focus
